The Itzulia Basque Country 2026 cycling race, scheduled from April 6 to 11, starting in Bilbao and concluding in Bergara, will lead to significant traffic restrictions across Euskadi, with notable impacts in Bilbao and Basauri.

The 65th edition of the Itzulia Basque Country, running from April 6 to April 11, will be supported by an extensive security and escort operation coordinated by the Basque Government. This operation involves over 300 agents from the Ertzaintza, including units from Traffic, Mobile Brigade, Surveillance and Rescue, and local police stations (Ertzain-etxeak), alongside Local Police forces from the affected municipalities.
All information regarding the race will be disseminated through official websites, applications, and X social media accounts. Additionally, citizens can access the Basque Government's 011 telephone number, available 24 hours a day, for traffic information, as well as the website www.trafikoa.euskadi.eus and the X account @TrafikoaEJGV. Traffic disruptions and restrictions will also be announced via variable message signs located throughout the Basque road network.
The first stage, on April 6, will be a time trial in Bilbao, expected to start around 14:30 h and finish by 17:40 h. This stage, coinciding with the Easter Return Operation, will cause significant changes in vehicular traffic, pedestrian mobility, and parking in the capital of Bizkaia. Residents are advised to consult the official information from the Bilbao City Council to plan their movements.
Subsequent stages will also have an impact. On April 7, the second stage will pass through the Foral Community of Navarre, from Pamplona-Iruña to the Mendukilo Caves. On April 8, the third stage will start and finish in Basauri, between 13:31 h and 17:30 h. On April 9, the fourth stage will take place in Galdakao, from 13:13 h to 17:30 h. On April 10, the fifth stage will be held in Eibar, from 13:05 h to 17:30 h. Finally, on April 11, the sixth stage will run from Antzuola to Bergara, from 14:06 h to 17:30 h.
