This event, which is part of Bizkaia's designation as European Region of Sport 2026, has already attracted over 1,500 registered participants. This figure has significantly surpassed initial forecasts, which anticipated around 300 to 400 women.
The proposal originated this year when the Provincial Council requested various initiatives from sports federations linked to the European recognition. The organizers stated that the goal is to make women's presence in the mountains more visible, as it has often been relegated to the background, and to encourage women who may not have previously ventured into mountaineering.
“"I always say that together we are stronger and we go further. And I think it will be very beautiful to find women who don't know each other sharing a summit."
The dynamic is simple: groups of at least five women will choose a nearby peak and ascend it together. The organization aims to cover around one hundred different mountains to extend the call throughout the territory. Among the confirmed peaks are Gorbeia, Pagasarri, Anboto, Kolitza, Ganekogorta, Oiz, Serantes, Mugarra, and Zalama, among many others.
Although the event is aimed at women and only they can formally register, men will also be able to participate as companions. The important thing, according to the organizers, is to respect the prominence of women during that day.
The event will culminate on May 16 at 12:00 PM, when participants will unfurl flags and take simultaneous photographs from the various summits. The purpose is to disseminate the event through media and social networks to ensure it does not remain a mere anecdote.
