A public bus connection between Donostia and the University of the Basque Country's (UPV) Leioa campus, located in Bizkaia, has been a long-standing demand. Currently, many students from Gipuzkoa studying in Leioa commute daily using private buses organized by student associations. To address this, the student council of the UPV's Gipuzkoa campus has repeatedly requested the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council to establish a regular bus line within the Lurraldebus public transport system.
This issue saw a development yesterday in the Gipuzkoa General Assemblies, where the PNV, PSE-EE, and PP presented and approved a proposal. The proposal urges the provincial council to "progressively integrate" this regular bus line and to "expedite" the necessary procedures for its implementation. However, the approved resolution does not align with the student council's specific request, primarily because it fails to mention any dates or deadlines for the line's launch.
The original proposal to establish the bus line was put forward by EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Gipuzkoa. Both parties have expressed disappointment, stating that the resolution approved by the General Assemblies is "futile" as it does not include concrete commitments regarding the implementation of the new service.
