Despite a summer filled with numerous celebrations, the residents of Getxo still have a desire to fill the streets with festivity. Las Arenas will conclude September with the Nuestra Señora de Las Mercedes festivities, a three-day celebration running from September 25th to 27th. The program includes giant games for all ages, bingo, competitions, workshops, and a variety of concerts.
On Friday, September 25th, the festivities will commence with a lunch for seniors at the Plaza de las Escuelas. In the afternoon, the official start will be marked by the chupinazo (opening rocket) and the proclamation, followed by evening concerts by the bands La Mara and The Timpanos & Linea Continua. As in previous years, the Remember Time music session will conclude the first day.
On Saturday, September 26th, the day will be dedicated to activities for children and young people. In the morning, there will be a fishing competition, zumba, inflatables, and go-karts, among other attractions, in Las Arenas and the Plaza de las Escuelas. In the evening, the concert by Delincuencia Senil and the L.A. Black Night Fest discofesta show will liven up the night.
On Sunday, September 27th, gastronomy will take center stage. The traditional snail, tortilla, and marmitako competitions will be held, along with a chocolate tasting. At midday, an artisan and gastronomic fair will open in the Plaza de las Escuelas. To conclude the festivities, the band Tequila Moonrise will perform a concert in the afternoon on Amistad street.
The extensive program also includes other events such as an exhibition of traditional Basque sports (herri-kirolak), dance workshops, a magic show, and an itinerant fanfarria (brass band), all aimed at creating a festive atmosphere.
