The British cruise ship 'Ambition', affected by a norovirus outbreak, will proceed with its arrival at the Port of Bilbao, despite the viral situation causing gastroenteritis in several passengers and the death of one.

The British cruise ship 'Ambition', currently dealing with a norovirus outbreak, is set to arrive at the Port of Bilbao on Monday, May 18. The viral outbreak has led to gastroenteritis among several passengers and the unfortunate death of one individual.
The vessel made a stop in Gijón on Sunday morning. As was the case in A Coruña, health services boarded the ship to conduct the necessary inspections and assess the onboard health situation according to established protocols. Disembarkation was authorized at 8:30 AM after confirming the 'Ambition' met the required public health and safety standards.
Initially, the situation necessitated the confinement of all 1,700 occupants. However, health authorities in the New Aquitaine region of France subsequently lifted the disembarkation ban for passengers without symptoms, while strict isolation measures remain in place for those infected.
According to official sources, there are currently 17 active cases of common gastroenteritis onboard, with affected individuals remaining isolated as per health protocols. The ship is scheduled to depart at 6:00 PM, with the Port of Bilbao as its destination. Health officials will board upon arrival, as is customary for each stop, to inspect the cruise ship and determine whether to permit asymptomatic passengers to disembark.
