An innovative project to establish a Renewable Fuels Hub in Bizkaia was unveiled today, spearheaded by Petronor, with an initial investment of 250 million euros and the creation of 1,200 new jobs.
The energy transition extends beyond environmental concerns, acting as a significant driver for the Bizkaia economy. Petronor stands out as one of the most active agents in this field, having advanced for years towards a greener future in its production. This morning, the company presented a new flagship project at the energy innovation hub in Abanto. This initiative will involve 51 companies in creating a Renewable Fuels Hub in Euskadi, mobilizing an initial investment of 250 million euros over the next three years through various contributions.
This commitment is expected to generate 300 direct jobs and 900 indirect jobs, totaling 1,200 new employment opportunities. The project receives support from the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, in collaboration with the Basque Energy Cluster.

"This Renewable Fuels Hub perfectly represents the Euskadi and Bizkaia we envision and are building: a territory that transforms a major global challenge, such as decarbonization, into an opportunity to generate new industry, technology, and quality employment."
The Minister of Industry, Energy Transition, and Sustainability of the Basque Government, Mikel Jauregi, presented the Renewable Fuels Hub Transformative Project this Thursday at the Energy Intelligence Center (EIC). This is the fourth industrial-based project to emerge within the framework of the Euskadi-2030 Industry Plan.
In the race for electric vehicles, driven by Europe, objectives often outweigh the practicalities of technological development and charging network deployment. An open debate exists regarding synthetic fuels, which rely on green hydrogen and captured CO2 to ensure emission neutrality. The goal is to introduce an energy source compatible with current engines that contributes to decarbonization.

"This project is the best demonstration of the union of our science, technology, and industry. A leading company, like Petronor, and 23 SMEs, converge in a technological development project to create new industrial fabric."
