The Gernika-Lumo City Council has intensified its anti-war message in public spaces, installing new symbols and banners that highlight the town's role as an international reference against violence.

The Gernika-Lumo City Council has demonstrated a firm stance against war through various public initiatives. Among these, a temporary totem-like installation advocating for nuclear disarmament has been placed in Foru Square, underscoring the town's commitment.
This installation emphasizes that the Gernika-Lumo City Council was the first in the Basque Country to adhere to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). This decision was made last February, following the approval of a motion requested by the Gernika Gogoratuz collective.
In addition to this initiative, two large banners, four meters wide, have been displayed on the facade of the City Hall with the slogan 'No to war'. Municipal officials have stated that these interventions connect the memory of the 1937 bombing with an active commitment to peace, human rights, and the rejection of violence in the current context.

Furthermore, these actions serve as a call for respect for international law, appealing to the town's role as an international symbol against violence. In 25 days, the 89th anniversary of the 1937 bombing will be commemorated, and among the planned events to reinforce memory, reflection, and commitment to democratic values, a Corten steel sculpture symbolizing a door to peace will be inaugurated.
This sculpture will be located in the urban center, in a highly symbolic space, bearing the inscription 'Place of Democratic Memory'.
