The Vi Half Gasteiz 2026 event will mark its fifth edition on Saturday, June 6th, with record numbers, solidifying its status as a leading half-distance triathlon race.
The competition is set to host approximately 1,050 triathletes from across 50 Spanish provinces, enhancing its national profile. Additionally, significant international participation is expected, with representatives from countries including Switzerland, Uruguay, Andorra, Australia, Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, Denmark, and France.
From a sporting perspective, the event will feature a high-caliber field as it serves as the Basque Country and Álava Half Distance Championships, further intensifying the competition.
A notable aspect of this edition is the growth in female participation, with over 160 women at the starting line, a figure that underscores the event's positive development in this area.
In the men's category, notable participants include local athlete Mikel Ugarte, a recent qualifier for the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, alongside Mikel Mugika, Austrian Thomas Steger, Swiss Matteo Reddy, and fellow locals Sergio López Santamaría and David Mendes Mercado.
The presence of international athletes, combined with leading national triathletes, will transform Vitoria-Gasteiz into a central hub for half-distance triathlon this weekend.
The course will comprise a 1.9 km swim in the Ullibarri-Gamboa reservoir, a 90 km cycling segment through the Llanada Alavesa, and a 21 km run within the medieval old town of Vitoria-Gasteiz. The race will commence at 12:30 PM from Garaio Park.
The finish line will be located at the Plaza de los Fueros, which will also host the Runner's Fair on Friday and Saturday. The first triathletes are expected to arrive shortly after 4:00 PM.
