The Durango City Council is modernizing its public lighting system, installing new light points and renovating 338 columns through an energy services contract, to meet the lighting needs of its citizens.

The municipality of Durango continues to make progress in improving its public lighting, within the framework of the energy services contract. This project involves the implementation of new light points and the renovation of existing poles or columns, with the aim of achieving greater efficiency and sustainability.
The installation of new light points is being carried out progressively, according to the planned zoning. These actions began in Aliendalde between November and December 2025, and continued in Tabira between December 2025 and January 2026. Currently, work is underway in Aramotz and Astepe.
Although interventions in San Fausto and Santikurutz were scheduled for the period between March and April of this year, some of these works have been brought forward. Specifically, actions have already begun in San Fausto —on Jesús María Pedrosa and Jesús María Leizaola streets— and in Santikurutz, on Hegoalde avenue. Subsequently, interventions will progressively extend to San Ignacio and Muruetatorre between April and May; to Magdalena and San Roke between May and June; and to Landako and Mugarra Auzunea between June and July. Finally, they will conclude in Alde Zaharra and Erretentxu between July and August.
The project also includes the modification of public lighting poles (columns), with an initial forecast of acting on 350 units. Of these, 338 have already been approved, while the remaining 12 will be acquired and made available to meet future needs. Two models of columns will be installed: 291 units of 4 meters in height and 47 units of 8 meters, adapted to the characteristics of each space. These columns will be renewed in various areas of the municipality, such as Ezti, Antso Estegiz, Urki, Intxaurrondo park, Erretxu, Hegoalde, and Landako avenue. All these actions must be executed during the first year, that is, before next September, as established in the contract.

"This project is key to improving the town. Infrastructures will be renewed to make them more efficient, sustainable, and adapted to what residents truly need: better lighting."
