The municipality of Gatika, in Bizkaia, has seen a significant increase in dog boarding services in recent years, responding to the growing needs of pet owners.

Over the past five years, Gatika has become a key location for dog boarding facilities. One such center is Txakurargi, where dog socialization and pack management are fundamental. The managers of this center explain that once dogs adapt, the place feels like home to them.

"It's a demanding job, requiring constant dedication with hardly any rest. However, the emotional reward is immense."

This reward is reflected in the animals' behavior, their development, and the trust they show upon arrival. Professionals in the sector also warn against the tendency to over-humanize pets. They emphasize that dogs need to learn to be calm and not be stimulated all day, finding balance by respecting their nature.
Also in Gatika is the Jagón residence, which organizes dogs into groups based on their temperament and size to facilitate coexistence. This center has large plots and the capacity to accommodate dozens of animals. There is a noticeable increase in demand, especially during holidays and long weekends. Patience and empathy are key in this management, reminding that while dogs are part of the family, they remain dogs.
The prices for these services, around ten euros daily for daycare and slightly more for boarding, have contributed to their expansion. Clients come from various parts of Bizkaia and even Gipuzkoa, attracted by a model that prioritizes animal welfare. Ultimately, the simple idea shared by all professionals is for the dog to play, rest, and not overly notice the absence of their owners.
