The night has been particularly difficult for sleeping in Bizkaia, with heat that has offered no respite and minimum temperatures in many cases approaching 20 degrees, following a sweltering Sunday.
In Bilbao, temperatures remained around 17 degrees during the early morning hours. On Sunday, the Basque Meteorology Agency, Euskalmet, recorded the day's peak at the Zorrotza station, reaching 40.2 ºC around 5:00 PM. In inland municipalities, where the heat was especially intense, minimums were around 18 degrees in Igorre, 17 in Amorebieta, and 17 in Balmaseda.
This Monday night is expected to be even warmer, with minimum temperatures not dropping below 20 degrees across the territory. Bilbao anticipates a true tropical night, with values around 22 degrees in the early morning. On Tuesday, nighttime heat will increase further, leaving minimums as high as 26 degrees.
Given this scenario, experts recommend basic measures for better rest: ventilate the home during the coolest parts of the day, keep blinds lowered during sunny hours, stay frequently hydrated, and avoid heavy meals before bed. Wearing light clothing and ensuring cross-ventilation in rooms also helps, as does taking lukewarm showers before sleeping to aid in lowering body temperature.
