High Temperatures Lead to 15 Heat-Related Cases in Bizkaia

Temperatures are forecast to exceed 30 degrees again on Sunday, with a yellow alert in effect.

Temperatures soared to 38.5 degrees Celsius in Sodupe (Bizkaia) on Saturday, leading the emergency services of Osakidetza to treat 33 people across the Basque Country for heat-related illnesses, 15 of whom were in Bizkaia.

According to Euskalmet, the highest temperature recorded on Saturday in Bizkaia was 38.5 degrees Celsius in Sodupe. Throughout the day, a yellow alert for heat was in effect across the entire Basque Country from 13:00 to 20:00. Following the conclusion of the alert, Osakidetza's Emergency Service reported that a total of 33 individuals had been attended to in the autonomous community, with 15 of them in Bizkaia.
The individuals treated ranged in age from 2 to 96 years. Five were treated on-site and released, while 28 were transported by ambulance to hospitals or health centers for further monitoring, with none of their conditions being life-threatening, as detailed by the Department of Health. Of the 33 individuals assisted, 16 were in Gipuzkoa and two in Álava.

Weather forecasts indicate that high temperatures will persist into Sunday, with the yellow heat alert being reactivated from 13:00 onwards. Euskalmet predicts a sunny morning, followed by the possibility of developing clouds and some thunderstorms in the afternoon, particularly in inland areas, accompanied by gusty winds. The entry of north wind on Monday is expected to bring a cooling effect.
