The Basque Government has committed to building 801 protected rental homes across Euskadi next year, the highest figure approved by the public company Visesa in recent years. Of these homes, at least 224 will be in Bizkaia. Another 301 will be erected in Gipuzkoa and 276 in Araba.
These figures were announced by counselor Denis Itxaso in response to an interpellation in the Basque Parliament. Itxaso criticized EH Bildu's stance after the abertzale coalition presented its plan against the housing crisis, recalling that they have not ceded land for 15 years.
Visesa's program includes two developments in Bizkaia: one with 80 homes and another with 60, both in Basauri. Additionally, two more developments will be built in Abadiño, with 54 and 30 homes respectively. In Vitoria, the rentals will be concentrated in the Zabalgana neighborhood, and in Gipuzkoa, they will be distributed among Zarautz (152), Rentería (45), and Tolosa (104).
“"This week we have approved new homes with Visesa. All for rent and with more public investment committed. With actions, not diagnoses. That is what this government does: builds."
The program approved for this year had planned for 788 apartments, while for 2025 the plan accounted for 716 foreseen homes.
