The Minister of Self-Government, Maria Ubarretxena, has clarified the scope of the agreement between the Basque Government and the Spanish Government regarding airport management and stated that the temporary transfer of the Guernica painting is not a closed issue.

The Minister of Self-Government, Maria Ubarretxena, has sought to clarify the true scope of the agreement with the Spanish Government for Basque institutions to finally participate in the management of Loiu, Foronda, and Hondarribia airports. The minister stated that the agreement represents a significant step forward, even if it does not constitute the full transfer of powers that the PNV had sought for years.

"Before, it was zero, nothing could be done. For the Basque Government and the provincial councils to be able to say something about airports is totally reasonable. Before we had no voice, and now we will have it."

In an interview on Radio Euskadi, Ubarretxena emphasized that this agreement strengthens Euskadi's voice in airport strategy and investments. Regarding Aena's decision to charge for parking at Foronda, she indicated that it should not be assumed there will be resistance, reminding that the Basque Government has an agreement with the State, which holds 51% of Aena's Board of Directors.
Furthermore, Ubarretxena confirmed that the issue of the temporary transfer of the Guernica painting is not considered closed. Minister Urtasun's response in the Senate to the PNV is not deemed a formal inter-governmental response. The Basque Executive wishes to continue studying the temporary transfer to the Guggenheim, taking into account technological advancements. She reiterated that the Pradales government would be willing to cover the associated costs and expects an official written response.
