The Sopela City Council has announced that the access ramp to Barinatxe beach remains closed due to materials accumulated from January's landslides, implementing measures to ensure public safety.

Rocks and other materials from the landslides that occurred last January continue to obstruct the access ramp to Barinatxe beach. In response to this situation, the Sopela City Council has informed the Directorate of Emergencies of the Basque Government and the Rescue Service of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, so that they consider the access limitation if any intervention on the beach is necessary.
However, prior to this, the City Council formally requested the Coastal Demarcation to remove the materials blocking the ramp, as this action is not within municipal competencies. Nevertheless, this entity has responded negatively to the request. Therefore, the Sopela City Council has requested additional technical reports from the Basque Government and the Provincial Council to comprehensively evaluate the risks derived from the closure and find a safe solution as soon as possible.
The good weather during the Easter holidays attracted many people to this sandy area, even before rescue services were operational. For this reason, the Sopela City Council has emphasized the importance of not approaching the affected areas and not walking on the blocked path.

Accessing through that point could jeopardize the safety of citizens and hinder the work of emergency services.

Likewise, the City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to resolve this situation as soon as possible, but has indicated that, in the meantime, it will continue to make decisions that prioritize the protection of citizens.
