The Zubia exhibition, featuring 22 images by Donostia-based photographer Javi Julio documenting the Bidasoa migration route, is open to the public in Vitoria's Virgen Blanca Square until May 9.

Vitoria's Virgen Blanca Square is hosting the photographic exhibition Zubia, which showcases 22 images depicting the reality of the migration route along the Bidasoa border. The exhibition offers a visual journey through the experiences of migrants and will be open until May 9.
Javi Julio, a photographer from Donostia, is the author of the photographs on display. A guided tour will take place on Monday, April 13, at 11:30 AM, with the participation of Alpha Keita, one of the individuals featured in the images. This event will mark the opening of the seventh edition of the En el Foco conferences, this year under the theme 'Resisting in a Wounded World'.
The photographs capture the harsh realities of borders and the selective barriers faced by migrants based on their origin or skin color. The exhibition aims to raise awareness about the current situation of these routes and to make these experiences visible. The En el Foco cycle is organized by the municipal services of Development Cooperation and Citizen Participation.
All En el Foco activities will be free and held at the Europa Congress Palace. The first conference, titled 'Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza', will be on Monday, April 13, at 7:00 PM, presented by Aitor Zabalgogeazkoa from Doctors Without Borders. On Tuesday, April 14, at 7:00 PM, Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio will discuss the future of Gaza and the reconfiguration of the Middle East.
On Wednesday, April 15, at 7:00 PM, Ane Irazabal will analyze Europe's response. On Wednesday, April 22, at 6:30 PM, the focus will be on the struggles of women in the Middle East, featuring Razan Malash, Ryma Sheermohammadi, and Mikel Reparaz. The cycle will conclude on Thursday, April 23, at 6:30 PM, with correspondent Nuria Tesón's talk 'From Gaza to Iran: Geopolitics and Violence Against Women'.
On Thursday, April 16, at 5:30 PM, Florida cinemas will host a free film forum centered on the movie Faisaien Irla, which will explore the reality of the Bidasoa border.
Documentary photographer Javi Julio, based in Iran, has dedicated over a decade to migration projects, collaborating with media outlets such as The Guardian, El País, 5W, Euronews, and Gara. His recent work documents migration routes to Europe in locations like Greece, Tunisia, and Jordan. In 2021, he released the documentary Aita Mari, focusing on the rescue of migrants in the Mediterranean. Currently, his attention is on the Bidasoa migration route and the social and judicial context of the area. The images in the Zubia exhibition are part of this ongoing work.
Councilor Ana López de Uralde stated that the event aims to "sensitize the citizens of Vitoria" about Human Rights in their international dimension. "On this occasion, the activities scheduled until April 23 will allow us to focus on some international conflicts, especially the crisis in the Middle East and the role of civil society in these situations," she noted.
