Maider Goikoetxea, an artist from Hondarribia, is presenting an exhibition that compiles nearly three decades of her creative journey at the Maddalen Arte Gunea in Hondarribia, featuring works from the 1990s to the present.
The exhibition by Maider Goikoetxea brings together different stages of her artistic production, from the 1990s to today. Visitors can observe elements such as tiles, stones, and shells from Kai Zaharra, all collected locally and arranged in superimposed layers, a central concept in the artist's project.
In addition to these materials, the exhibition includes photographs and the Heidi project, which began in 1998 and remains intentionally unfinished. This ongoing work is Maider Goikoetxea's way of expressing and understanding her art, as she believes there is still more to explore within it. Water plays a significant role in her photographs, reflecting the coastal nature of the city.
“
"I started with the Heidi book, taking the original and making it foldable, scanning and editing it page by page, because I want people to see it this way. That's where I started making drawings, collages, and photos. Some images are related to the text and others are not. But I don't want to finish it."
The pictorial style of her photography is also noteworthy, a testament to her background in painting. Maider Goikoetxea herself has mentioned that some visitors approach her works unsure whether they are paintings or actual images.
“
"I don't have much time to create, and that's the most important thing for me. These works are not finished because I know I can still benefit from this project, which has led me to take advantage of the opportunity Hondarribia gives me to do things from a different point of view. You have to pay attention to things, not just see them."
Ortzi Alonso, the Culture Councilor for the Hondarribia City Council, described the exhibition as a great opportunity “to enjoy a calm and profound art.” Meanwhile, Sandra Cuesta, the center's curator, highlighted the interesting “dialogue between works built over time.”
The chance to exhibit at Maddalen Arte Gunea is particularly meaningful for the artist, as her family once lived next to the venue. Therefore, the inclusion of a photograph of her grandmother, Alejandra, is not coincidental, symbolizing her roots. The exhibition will run until May 15, with the artist present on Fridays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Sundays during morning hours.
