As explained by the Euskera representative, Josu Iguíñiz, the two main programs developed in July and August achieved an approximate rating of 9 out of 10. Firstly, the Solas Jolas open camps saw the participation of 552 children, divided into 47 groups. The program aims to make Basque the vehicular language in play for children in Infant and Primary Education, with the support of monitors. Additionally, 20 children with special educational needs were attended to by specialized staff. In the family satisfaction survey, the program received a score of 4.57 out of 5, with monitors and child welfare also receiving high ratings.
Secondly, the Udagiro program offered free Basque reinforcement to 82 new students aged between 10 and 17, who have arrived from other regions or communities. The classes, provided by Herri Jakintza Euskaltegi, filled 90 places across eight groups, and the objectives set by the teachers were met in 86.7% of cases with high attendance of 83.1%. The program not only aims to strengthen oral expression but also to optimize registration systems and waiting lists for the upcoming academic year, better responding to the high demand registered in July.
Both initiatives are part of the Basque Government's AROA strategic framework (2024-2034) and the Irun City Council's 2026-2029 Action Plan, with the goal of ensuring the use of Basque in organized leisure activities for those under 16. Representative Iguíñiz emphasized that summer is not an interruption for the Basque language, and that both programs are ideal tools for language maintenance and reception.
Finally, the representative thanked the monitors and teachers who worked, the organizers (Hezten and Herri Jakintza), and especially the families who chose Basque during the summer.
