This morning, Irun City Council opened the Local Police's Operational Coordination Center to the media to demonstrate its surveillance and security operations.

During this session, the functionality of the NUUK System was showcased. This system manages the 190 surveillance cameras currently installed throughout the town. The footage from these cameras is displayed in the Local Police's Operational Coordination Center, which has expanded its monitoring capabilities from six to nine screens, a proposal that received the most votes in the Participatory Budgets.
The layout of the operations center and the functioning of this integrated system, implemented two years ago, were explained. It is centralized around an operations table that displays real-time images from cameras located at various points across the city. This aims to expedite the response times of involved services, including the Local Police, Civil Protection, and Health Services, in addressing situations such as traffic jams or floods.
An additional 36 cameras are slated for installation by the end of the year. A month ago, the council announced the placement of these new devices in 18 different locations within the town where no such equipment currently exists, bringing the total number of installed cameras across the city to 226.
