The Irun Book Fair has commenced, with its marquee set up in San Juan Plaza. Over the course of Wednesday and Thursday, more than a dozen artists are scheduled to participate in various activities, including book presentations and literary discussions. Events will take place around the marquee and in the different rooms of the CBA.
This afternoon's main event, focusing on local writers, will be held at 7:00 PM in the Irun Zuzenean hall, featuring the Geltoki encounter with author and musician Jabier Muguruza, who will present his new book, Kafe Mokka. On Thursday, in the same format and location, Zuhaitz Gurrutxaga will lead another Geltoki meeting at 8:00 PM.
Additionally, this afternoon, the Book Fair extends its cultural offerings to other disciplines such as music. At 7:30 PM, in front of Irun City Hall, Hatxe and Eneritz Furyak will provide the musical backdrop for this edition of the town's main literary event.
To celebrate Book Day, which falls on Thursday, two public readings will take place at the CBA Municipal Library. The chosen work in Basque is Moebiusen Ertzak by Garazi Kamio, who will begin the reading at 10:00 AM. In Spanish, the classic El Quijote has been selected, with participation from Irun's mayor and the Culture delegate.
“"With this Book Fair, we seek to provide an opportunity to showcase and value local quality and talent, alongside other parallel activities."
The opening of the marquee was marked by a demonstration from striking workers of Txingudi Zerbitzuak, accompanied by the loud noise of their protest. Two workers, including the committee president, entered the marquee to speak with the mayor and the Culture delegate.
“"We have asked that just as there is a time for negotiation with Txinzer, which continues and will continue, at this moment to stop, especially for the local artists."
