This celebration, which the museum has been organizing since 2016, will this year focus on the ancient language, coinciding with UNESCO's proclamation of February 9th as World Greek Language Day in 2025. The event promises to be dynamic and interactive.
In the morning, at 11:30 AM, a children's workshop titled 'Animals that Teach. Playing with Aesop's Fables' will be led by pedagogue Sofía Roilidou, aimed at children aged 6 to 12. Fables will be introduced through drawings, songs, and stories.
In the afternoon, at 5:00 PM, conversation sessions will resume to practice modern Greek, adapted to various skill levels. Additionally, a beginner's class will be offered to discover the alphabet and learn everyday expressions. These activities will be supported by expert teachers Sofía Roilidou, Alicia Villar Lecumberri, Vicky Rouska, and Penélope Kontopoulou.
Later, at 6:00 PM, following a greeting from the Ambassador of Greece in Madrid, Apostolos Baltas, two lectures on the Greek language will be presented. The first, 'You already speak Greek… and you don't know it. An awareness of Greek's footprint in Spanish', led by Sofía Roilidou, will highlight the numerous Greek words used daily in fields such as education, science, philosophy, theater, and democracy.
The second lecture, 'The Greek Language: "a matter of life and death"', will be delivered by Dr. in Philology Alicia Villar Lecumberri. This talk will emphasize the significance Greek poets and thinkers attribute to their rich and profound language as an essential tool for expressing ideas.
All activities are free of charge. Participation in the children's workshop and the modern Greek introductory class requires prior registration via email.
