The recent triumph of Bidasoa Irun in Logroño has sent ripples through the top ranks of the Asobal League. This result, combined with Granollers' defeat in Alicante and Torrelavega's win against Caserío Ciudad Real, has compressed the standings, placing four teams between second and fifth position with only a two-point difference.
This season's Asobal League is proving to be spectacular, and the dedication of teams like Logroño, Granollers, Torrelavega, and Irudek Bidasoa Irun in their pursuit of the runner-up title is so immense that it will be a shame for it to conclude, unless, of course, the yellow-clad team secures that second spot. Only then could the closing of this thrilling 2025-2026 campaign be considered truly satisfying.
Last Saturday, the Irun team conquered the Palacio de los Deportes de Logroño, a venue where no one had managed to win this year, nor throughout the entire previous year. Securing a victory on the home ground of a direct rival for second place is an incredible achievement, even more so when it's against the team that has been the standout performer in the group so far. However, doing so by breaking over a year of home invincibility is a feat in itself.
“"More than an assessment, what I want is to congratulate the players. We had a tough time this past week with the point we lost and how it was lost. So, congratulations to the players, the fans, and the club: we are 100% alive and back in the fight!"
Mozas emphasized that the victory was a collective effort and that the team delivered an extraordinary second half. "We had to win it three times to take the two points," he stated. Among the keys to the triumph, he highlighted the rotations in the second half with the entry of Piotr Mielczarski, Julen Mujika, and Nacho Valles, as well as the strong start to the second half with Mario Nevado, Gorka Nieto, Rodri Rodrigo Salinas, and Esteban Salinas.
He also praised the team's physical exertion, including players who were recovering from injuries, such as Xavi Túa, who played the entire match after a two-month injury. Dariel and Peciña, despite not being at full fitness, also contributed to the team. Although he mentioned Jakub Skrzyniarz, Mozas stressed that the victory was a team effort.
The coach admitted to having a difficult time after the home draw against Torrelavega, but noted that sports always offer another opportunity. Now, his focus is on the upcoming match against Alicante, a dangerous team that has already defeated Granollers. "The victory in Logroño will be worth little if we don't win at home on Saturday," he concluded, referring to the match scheduled for 6:30 PM.
