A 51-year-old man was arrested in Lemoa last Tuesday after firefighters discovered a marijuana plantation in his home while putting out a fire, as reported by the Ertzaintza.

The incident occurred last Tuesday, around 10:00 AM, when an alert was raised about a fire in an apartment in the Azurreka neighborhood of Lemoa. Firefighters and Ertzaintza officers quickly responded to the scene. Since the resident was not present, they had to force entry to extinguish the blaze.
According to the Department of Security, after the fire was put out and to ensure there were no other potential sources, the Ertzaintza patrol searched the interior of the house. It was then that they found marijuana plants, approximately one meter tall, in several rooms.
When the resident, a 51-year-old man of Latin American origin, arrived home, he admitted that the plants belonged to him. Consequently, the Ertzaintza proceeded with his arrest for a public health offense and transferred him to the police station.
On Wednesday, with the appropriate judicial authorization, the home was searched. A total of 255 marijuana plants were counted, distributed across four rooms of the property, and four packages of buds were also found. The detainee is expected to appear before a judge in the coming hours.
