The Lemoa City Council held the 'Order and Commitment: Dialogues on the Challenges and Opportunities of Migration in Our Environment' conference this Thursday, gathering residents, social agents, and experts.

During the event, Mayor Esther Iturrioz invited citizens to reflect on a diverse and multicultural Lemoa, emphasizing the need to build an inclusive municipality where everyone has a place. Migration was highlighted as both a challenge and a strategic opportunity for the municipality's future, focusing on integration, coexistence, and leveraging diverse talent.

"We do not accept mixing migration and delinquency, but we also want to make it clear that we will not stand idly by and let crimes go unpunished, no matter who commits them."

The conference continued with presentations by Hajar Samadi, a member of the Muslim community in Euskadi, and Lida Nori, of Afghan origin. Both offered complementary perspectives on cultural diversity, coexistence, and rights. Samadi provided practical insights into coexistence in diverse contexts, addressing issues related to the social perception of the Muslim community, stereotypes, and their contribution to society. Lida Nori, in turn, brought closer the reality of Afghanistan, with a special focus on the situation of women and the social changes experienced in recent decades.
The day concluded with an open discussion to address issues such as the relationship between coexistence and security, the difficulties faced by migrants, and the importance of language in integration processes. The Lemoa City Council expressly thanked the Emigrados sin Fronteras collective for their involvement in this initiative, “which has helped to make visible the realities and situations experienced daily by many people from other countries,” as well as all attendees.
