Julen Zubero, son of the legendary cyclist Luis Zubero, was seriously injured this Tuesday afternoon when he was hit by a car on a road in Zeberio. The former cyclist from Lemoa, who recently turned 44 and runs the family business, Ciclos Zubero, in central Bilbao, had to be evacuated by an Osakidetza helicopter to Cruces hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
The injured man sustained multiple traumas. Admitted to the reference hospital in Biscay, the extent of Zubero's injuries is currently unknown.
The accident occurred around 3:00 PM this Tuesday on the Bi-3524 road, as it passes through Zeberio, near the Orue mountain range. A vehicle and the cyclist were involved, with the latter in serious condition.
Many cycle tourists use this route due to its characteristics: a winding road with climbs, set in nature with little traffic, making it a popular choice for their cycling outings.
