In an institutional statement, the council deeply regretted the situation faced by those affected by the non-payment of lottery prizes linked to the local rugby club. As of March 7, 109 complaints had been filed with the Ertzaintza (Basque Police) concerning the non-payment of Christmas lottery tickets sold by the club.
“"We are aware of the concern, uncertainty, and discomfort that this situation is generating among many families and residents of the municipality, and we hope that this matter can be clarified and resolved as soon as possible, with responsibility, transparency, and respect for the rights of all affected individuals."
The council further added that they trust “the best possible solution will be found to restore tranquility to those who have been waiting for months for an answer.” On Thursday afternoon, some of the affected individuals met at the town hall to decide on the next steps to be taken through a platform established to unite all those harmed and channel a single voice to expedite procedures and, if necessary, take definitive action through the courts.
