Eusko Ikaskuntza is organizing a symposium this Thursday, September 10th, in Bilbao, as part of the 'Diversity of beliefs and community weaving' project. As explained by Jon Mentxakatorre, the project director, the goal of the event is to understand the transformations occurring in our society and to strengthen coexistence through dialogue between different traditions, beliefs, and experiences.
In recent centuries, the religious and spiritual landscape in the Basque Country has undergone a profound transformation. Both secularization processes and religious diversity prompt discussions about the current state of believing individuals and communities, aiming to clarify the place, meaning, and contribution of religiosity, spirituality, and inner life in society at large, thereby fostering healthy and enriching dialogues.
For the symposium, Eusko Ikaskuntza has organized four talks. Firstly, philosopher and director of Arantzazu magazine, Aitor Sorreluz, will give the presentation 'Arantzazuk badu esangura' (Arantzazu has meaning). Secondly, Iosu Etxezarraga will present 'Konfesionalizazioa Euskal Herrian: herri, erakunde eta gizarte harremanen sustrai kristauak Goi Erdi Arotik aurrera' (Confessionalization in the Basque Country: Christian roots of people, institutions, and social relations from the High Middle Ages onwards). Additionally, philologist and expert in bertsolaritza didactics, Mikel Artola, will focus on 'Gaia, laia, jaia' (Theme, tool, festival). Finally, Marisabel Albizu, from the Ellacuria Foundation, will conclude the event with the talk 'Ba ote dago erlijioen arteko elkarrizketarako oinarririk?' (Is there a basis for interreligious dialogue?).
