The PNV has announced today the appointment of Anton Zuluaga as its candidate for the mayoralty of Igorre for the upcoming 2027 elections. Zuluaga, currently the Sports Councillor, will take over from the acting mayor.

The municipal assembly of the PNV has named Anton Zuluaga Etxebarria as its candidate for the mayoralty of Igorre for the next elections, scheduled for May 2027. Zuluaga, who currently serves as the Sports Councillor in the town hall, will succeed the current mayor. The reasons behind this change have not been clarified by the jeltzale party.
In the previous 2023 elections, the list led by the former mayor gained a new seat, reaching the six seats that constitute a majority in Igorre. This allowed the PNV to regain the makila after twelve consecutive years of EH Bildu's government.
Zuluaga, 49 years old, is a draughtsman by profession and a working partner at Batz Cooperative. Although a native of Zeanuri, he has resided in Igorre for two decades with his wife and two children. He has a long history within the nationalist party since joining at 18 and becoming part of EGI. Between 2003 and 2011, he was the Urban Planning Councillor in his hometown, and from 2018 to 2022, he served as president of the Municipal Organization.

"It is an honor to take over from the previous mayor and to continue the program that has marked the opening of a new era for Igorre."

The new candidate has stated that his list “will continue to listen to the residents and respond to the challenges and opportunities of the municipality with a commitment to work with proximity, responsibility, and dialogue”. According to the party, Zuluaga's selection “reinforces a management model based on stability and teamwork”.
