The Provincial Council of Álava has commenced the deployment and activation phase of the Aktibatu Araba Smart Tourism Platform, aiming to move towards a more intelligent and connected tourism management model based on data utilization.

Following an initial analysis and definition phase, the project now enters the stage of developing and implementing cutting-edge digital tools. In this new phase, the Provincial Council is simultaneously working on several strategic axes, such as coordination with institutional technical teams and regional councils to facilitate project activation, and its expansion as a territorial framework.
Additionally, itineraries and materials are being prepared for the incorporation of technical profiles and companies into the platform, and solutions that are part of the project, such as the future tourist card and the tourist intelligence system, are being advanced.

"Our goal is for the Álava Smart Tourism Platform not to remain at a technological or conceptual level, but to become a useful tool for improving tourism management, generating shared intelligence, and facilitating decision-making for both technical teams and the business network."

Among the ongoing lines of work, the definition of the first practical applications linked to data and the installation of “sensors” in some tourist resources in the territory stand out. This will allow working with shared and aggregated information to improve planning, resource management, and knowledge of demand behavior, both for leisure and work, from travelers visiting Álava.
In the field of wine tourism, the project will allow obtaining indicators related to the influx and movement of travelers, such as the total number of visitors, current occupancy, visitor numbers by time slots, seasonality index, demand distribution by location, average length of stays, waiting times, or flows between different tourist points and resources.
In parallel, applications linked to industrial resources are also being developed, where information on visitor influx and movement will be cross-referenced with variables related to the physical state and maintenance of the resource itself, incorporating indicators of use and conservation.
This new stage also involves the launch of Aktibatu, the digital guide for the activation of the Álava Smart Tourism Platform. This common digital space will provide training itineraries, practical materials, webinars, and workshops for technicians and tourism companies, with the aim of empowering future users.
The Department of Employment, Commerce, Tourism, and Provincial Administration is already working on preparing the calendar for these initial milestones, focusing first on institutional and regional technical staff, and then guiding the progressive incorporation of companies into the ecosystem. This process will continue in May with an institutional presentation event in Vitoria-Gasteiz, bringing together public and private stakeholders and professionals from the tourism sector.
