Osakidetza has filled all 577 Specialized Health Training positions, the highest number in its history, solidifying Euskadi's reputation as an attractive healthcare training destination.

Osakidetza has successfully filled all 577 positions for Specialized Health Training, the highest figure in its history, which "consolidates Euskadi as one of the most attractive destinations for specialized health training," the entity reported. This figure is 11 more than last year and represents an 84% increase compared to a decade ago.
The Department of Health stated that this increase in positions is "fundamental to guarantee generational renewal in the healthcare system and to respond to an increasingly aging population, with more chronic diseases and more dependency situations." Specifically, 438 MIR positions, 115 EIR nursing positions, 14 PIR clinical psychology positions, 9 FIR hospital pharmacy positions, and 1 hospital radiophysics position were filled, the latter being a new category.
By territory, the distribution was 110 positions in Araba, 314 in Bizkaia, and 153 in Gipuzkoa. In Primary Care, the maximum possible number of positions were offered: 115 for Family and Community Medicine, 37 for Family and Community Nursing, and 30 for Pediatrics.
Over the last decade, Family and Community Medicine has grown by 53%, Family and Community Nursing has quadrupled, and Pediatrics has increased by 66%. The 5 positions for the newly created specialty of Emergency Medicine were also filled. Last year, Osakidetza's hospital emergency services handled over 1,067,000 cases.
The entity expressed satisfaction, noting that "Osakidetza ranks among the most chosen MIR destinations, with a clear preference from top-performing candidates and a prominent position among communities chosen earlier and more frequently than its size would suggest." Euskadi is the third autonomous community with the most first choices, trailing only Madrid and, variably, Asturias. In Family and Community Medicine, Euskadi "once again leads: 37% of its offering was already allocated by May 18th, more than double the state average (17%)".
These figures position Euskadi as the third community with the highest coverage rate relative to the positions offered. Furthermore, within the territory, Family Medicine is not the "last option," ranking 16th out of 43 medical specialties chosen. "Overall, the data paints a solid picture: Osakidetza not only fills its positions but is chosen early by the best candidates," the Department concluded.
