The municipal council of Orozko has unanimously approved a declaration to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 1876 abolition of the fueros and the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Bergara Mayors' Movement.

The text, supported by EAJ and EH Bildu, denounces the suppression of political and institutional rights in Euskal Herria as an undemocratic act. The statement recalls that these rights were lost in Iparralde following the French Revolution and in Hegoalde through the abolition of the foral regime.
Furthermore, the council praised the Mayors' Movement that emerged in Bergara in 1976 for highlighting the Basque national identity, calling for participation in the event to be held in that town on July 19.
The Orozko council reaffirmed that citizens have the right to decide their political future freely and democratically, basing any institutional status on the will of the people. It also emphasized the need to make progress in self-government and foral integration to adapt historical rights to current social and democratic needs.
