The mountains and orientation will once again be the protagonists in Ondategi on May 10th. This town in Araba will host a new event in the 'Popular Orientation Races in Araba 2026' circuit, organized by the Araba Orientation Club (COAraba), in a race designed for all audiences.
The event will take place in a forest environment with gentle slopes, making it an accessible setting for both beginners and experienced participants. The event is open to a wide range of profiles: from families looking for an outdoor activity to experienced trail runners, mountaineers, and orienteers. Each participant can choose the route that best suits their level and objectives.
Orientation involves locating a series of points marked on a map (controls), using only a compass and observation skills. The organization has designed several routes adapted to different difficulty levels (yellow, orange, red, and black), with the option to participate individually or in a family modality.
Starts will be staggered between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM, with the finish line closing at 2:00 PM. Registrations are already open, with prices of 7 euros for adults, 5 euros for minors, and 9 euros for the combined adult-plus-minor modality. Non-federated individuals must also pay a 3-euro sports insurance fee, and those without an electronic timing system can rent a 'Sportident' device for 2 euros.
Additionally, the race will be scoring for the Euskal Herriko Orientazio Kopa (EHKO), adding a competitive incentive for those following the calendar, without losing the popular and accessible nature of the event. Prior to the race, on May 4th, a theoretical-practical introductory talk on orientation will be held for those who wish to learn the basics of this sport before participating.
