The Etorki and Lana cooperatives, with support from the Basque Government, have opened a new 67 million euro sawmill in Aiaraldea, Murgia, aiming to process 300,000 cubic meters of wood annually and create one hundred jobs.

On May 12, 2026, a new sawmill was inaugurated in Murgia, an initiative by the Etorki and Lana cooperatives, backed by the Basque Government. This facility, covering an area of 95,000 square meters, will significantly increase timber production capacity, from 80,000 to 300,000 cubic meters annually.
This project involved an investment of 67 million euros, of which nearly 13 million euros, or 20%, were contributed by the Basque Government. The new sawmill is expected to create one hundred jobs, which is positive news for the region, especially in an area facing challenging times.

"Those from home, with those from home, and with raw materials from home."

The President of the Basque Government
The sawmill aims to meet the market demand for "industrialized timber construction" and is expected to be "the largest and most efficient sawmill in Southern Europe." The facility boasts "advanced technology for comprehensive wood processing," primarily for insignis pine logs from forest plantations, with an approximate diameter of 60 centimeters.
