Heavy rainfall in Vitoria-Gasteiz over the past few hours has exceeded 40 l/m², inundating the city and much of Álava. April 29 was a very wet day, featuring two significant downpours: one around 6:00 PM and another starting after 11:00 PM. The rain continued throughout the night, and by 2:00 AM on April 30, many residents of Vitoria were awakened by another heavy shower.
These downpours led to large pools of water forming on numerous streets, sidewalks, and roads. The precipitation was very intense. According to Euskalmet data, the storm at 6:00 PM dropped 15 liters in just one hour. However, it is important to note that, as these were thunderstorms, the rainfall was highly uneven. This means that one area of Vitoria-Gasteiz could have received a lot of rain, while another, within the same city, received much less.
Below are the rainfall amounts recorded from early morning on April 29 until 6:00 AM on April 30 at various locations in Álava:
- Vitoria Airport: 44.8 l/m²
- Abetxuko: 37.4 l/m²
