Currently, this program is limited to the regions of Montaña Alavesa and Añana, and its use is also restricted, among others, to individuals with a recognized dependency level of 2 or 3, or with an uncontrolled pathology.
This project, led by the Department of Health of the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Álava, and the College of Pharmacists, aims to ensure the home delivery of medicines, helping patients receive prescribed medications according to their doctor's instructions.
The pilot phase of the project was launched at the beginning of 2025 in the aforementioned regions. After more than a year, the project has had 45 participants, and the provincial government made a very positive assessment at the time. The opposition has stated that, given such a positive assessment, there is no reason to continue limiting the program.
“"If such a positive assessment is made by political representatives, there is no sense in continuing to limit the project."
It has been emphasized that many people are excluded from the service, as despite needing it, they do not meet the established conditions. Therefore, the Provincial Council of Álava has been asked to conduct a thorough evaluation of the project, with the participation of all involved institutions, colleges, local entities, and staff.
Furthermore, a review of the conditions for participating in the project has been requested, in order to reach all individuals who can or wish to receive this service throughout Álava. It has been proposed that changes and improvements be made in continuous coordination and collaboration with institutions, staff from basic social services in the regions, and staff from the pharmacies involved.
