The 'Hogares Verdes' program by Fundación Vital will work with 35 families residing in Vitoria-Gasteiz this year, guiding them towards more responsible home management and efficient resource consumption.

Through this initiative, participants will be trained in self-monitoring domestic water and energy consumption, as well as adopting saving measures and behaviors in their daily habits, as reported by Fundación Vital in a statement.
Interested families can pre-register from today until April 29 on the fundacionvital.eus website. If there are more applications than available spots, a draw will be held among all pre-registrations.
The 'Hogares Verdes' program, aimed at families committed to the environmental, social, and economic impact of their daily habits, has involved 3,700 participants since its inception in 2015. The first step in the initiative is a home audit to improve behaviors, followed by the delivery of materials with practical information and recommendations, along with a simple sample and saving kit. Participants also receive an efficiency and saving kit, informational materials, and 'km 0' or ecological products for home consumption.
The project will begin in May with a presentation to the families, and that same month will focus on energy; June will cover water and waste; September will be dedicated to sustainable home mobility; and October, to conscious consumption. The program will conclude in November with the delivery of results and diplomas.
Among this year's novelties are two new modules focusing on food waste and responsible textile consumption. Additionally, technical visits and excursions will be made to waste, water, energy, circular economy, and local production facilities, allowing participants to practically understand the functioning of sustainable systems. Visits will include a waste treatment plant, a packaging selection plant, the Gardelegi landfill, the wastewater treatment plant, the Water Museum in Sobrón, and Eraiken, the construction institute. Visits will also be made to farmers and cheesemakers in Álava, and this year 'Hogares Verdes' will visit an organic winery with an integrated renewable energy system.
In addition to activities for participating families, 'Hogares Verdes' will offer other actions open to the public, such as 'Manos a la huerta' (Hands in the Garden), 'Desgranando el trigo de Álava' (Threshing Álava's Wheat), 'Alimentación' (Nutrition), or 'Limpieza de nuestro entorno' (Cleaning Our Environment).
