The Álava Archive is hosting the exhibition The dream of Everest, which commemorates the historic 1974 Tximist expedition, marking the birth of Basque Himalayan mountaineering.

Over four decades ago, the Tximist expedition laid the foundations for Basque mountaineering. Although they did not reach the summit of Everest, their efforts paved the way for future successes. The current exhibition honors this milestone by showcasing the project's most significant moments.
In collaboration with EMMOA, the Basque Mountain Museum Foundation, the exhibition displays original equipment, maps, and personal items from the 16-member team. The display is organized into three sections: one featuring maps and models, another detailing the historical trajectory, and a final audiovisual space.

"Beyond not having been able to reach the summit, that expedition was the origin and birth of the bond between the Basque Country and the Himalayas."

The exhibition also highlights the crucial financial and logistical support that enabled the mission. Through original letters, the display recounts the climbers' forced withdrawal due to weather conditions, an event that served as the cornerstone for future achievements.
