The Government Team of the Artziniega City Council reported at this April's plenary session on the healthy state of the municipal coffers. This comes despite a year in which, among other things, the equipping and commissioning of the Culture House was undertaken, following the renovation of the building. As Mayor Joseba Vivanco explained, “we closed 2025 with a positive cash balance of 2,429,532 euros, the highest in recent years”.
Precisely, thanks to this economic cushion, in the same session, various budget items were approved for numerous investments and expenses totaling 887,357.34 euros, all stemming from this surplus. This treasury surplus will allow the council to address “everything from continuing to condition rural roads, installing photovoltaic panels on the fronton roof, undertaking the execution of the new CRAD (day care center) in Geltoki Plaza, to installing new children's games in the school and renovating the entire school playground, as well as acquiring the Casona de Valle for social housing,” the mayor advanced.
Furthermore, in the future, “works such as the Artziniega crossing, the Saratxaguren slope, the water supply network to Ureta, or planning future paddle tennis courts, among a long list of investments and projects on the table for Artziniega's present and future, can be undertaken. However, this requires sound economic management that allows not only for savings but also for working towards and securing subsidies,” he emphasized.
By Mayoral decree, a budget item has been approved to install an interior ramp in the AMPA Barratxi classroom at the school, to adapt it for adult continuing education classes next academic year. Additionally, Vivanco reported on new economic allocations approved by Mayoral decree “to replace the ping-pong table in the Encina camp, to acquire a shade awning for the green area of the municipal swimming pools, to purchase two small enclaves to add to the Artziniega Public Mount, or to install an interior ramp in the AMPA Barratxi classroom at the school, to adapt it for the teaching of Permanent Education for Adults (EPA) classes next academic year,” he added.
The April plenary session in Artziniega also served to include a 10% bonus on the 2027 waste fee for composting families and households, either domestically or through community systems such as those installed in the Axpe and El Soto areas. Details on how to apply for this bonus will be explained next year, upon request from interested parties. This measure is similar to those already applied by nearby municipalities such as Amurrio, Aiara, Okondo, and Orozko.
However, the PNV's proposal, which suggested bonuses for large families, households with one or two people over 65, single-parent families, and businesses, did not receive approval regarding waste management in the plenary session held last Wednesday (April 1).
