The renovation works for the artificial turf on the municipal fields of Zaramaga and Adurtzabal are in their final stages, ready to debut the new state-of-the-art surface at the start of the 2026-27 season.
The replacement of the worn playing surface in both fields began last June. Fieldturf Poligras presented an execution period of 10 weeks. Operators are now marking the lines for the football 11 and 7 fields, and installing benches and irrigation systems.
Borja Rodríguez, councilor for City Model and Urbanism, explained that "once the works are finished, both Adurtzabal and Zaramaga will have a latest-generation turf, composed of high-density polyethylene and combining two shades of green, giving it the appearance of freshly cut grass".
The global investment for these works amounts to 962,020.20 euros (VAT included). The investment in Zaramaga totals 352,114.72 euros, which included, in addition to the turf, new gutters, a renovated irrigation system, asphalt base review, replaced goals, and new protective nets.
To modernize Adurtzabal, 609,905.42 euros have been allocated, covering the installation of the playing surface, replacement of gutters, irrigation cannons, new asphalt, goal changes, and new protective nets.
The main novelty is the installation of the turf on a prefabricated elastic base, instead of the usual rubber or sand infill. This improves turf conditions, is more environmentally sustainable, reduces surface temperature increase, and lessens abrasion for players.
This elastic base installation has also been applied to the renovation of Olaranbe's Field 3. The joint action in Olaranbe, Zaramaga, and Adurtzabal totals 1.34 million euros, part of a larger 3.6 million euro investment to modernize the network of 21 municipal football fields.
The Etxebarria cabinet continues the investment calendar for municipal football fields. "We committed to intervening in two fields each year to reach half a dozen renovated facilities by 2027. This legislature has already seen the renovation of San Martín, Olaranbe's Field 3, and now Zaramaga and Adurtzabal," concluded Rodríguez.
