The Local Government Board of Vitoria-Gasteiz has approved joining the alliance of cities against obesity, an initiative promoted by the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition.

This partnership aims to foster collaboration between local authorities, the scientific community, and civil society to implement urban policies that support citizen well-being. The goal is to create healthier, more accessible, and equitable urban environments.
The municipal strategy will focus on five key areas: information, training, nutrition, physical activity, and science. Planned measures include reviewing food options in school canteens and vending machines, as well as adapting public spaces for exercise.
Beyond prevention, the municipal commitment also focuses on combating the stigma and discrimination faced by people with obesity, integrating these actions into the city's health and wellness strategy.
