Vitoria-Gasteiz will host the National Research Awards 2026 ceremony on October 27th, 2026, at the Palacio de Congresos Europa. The Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, informed the mayor, Maider Etxebarria, of this news via a phone call.
Morant conveyed to the mayor that the awards are "a recognition of the city" for its work in science and innovation. Etxebarria welcomed the news, emphasizing that it "reinforces Vitoria's role as a benchmark in promoting talent and innovation." She added that it "consolidates our city as a venue for high-value institutional events."
The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU) presents these awards, which are Spain's highest recognition in the field of scientific research. They are endowed with 30,000 euros per category: ten National Research Awards and ten National Research Awards for Young Researchers.
The National Research Awards distinguish Spanish researchers for their extensive scientific careers and international relevance. Meanwhile, the National Research Awards for Young Researchers recognize the merit of Spanish researchers under 40 years of age with significant achievements in the early stages of their careers.
