Vitoria-Gasteiz now has 151,592 registered vehicles, 2,000 more than last year, with over 10,500 of them bearing ECO or Zero Emissions environmental labels.

According to data from the Treasury Department of the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, the city currently registers 151,592 vehicles, an increase of 2,000 units compared to the previous year. The majority are private cars, but thousands of motorcycles, trucks, tractors, buses, and trailers are also counted.
The most significant change is observed in less polluting vehicles, with a steady rise in electric and hybrid cars on the streets. In total, 10,598 vehicles have an ECO or Zero Emissions label, a figure that continues to grow.
The most common vehicle type in Vitoria is, unsurprisingly, the traditional passenger car, with a total of 118,114 units, representing nearly 78% of the vehicle fleet. Motorcycles also hold considerable weight, numbering 16,468 (2,728 mopeds and 13,740 motorcycles).
Furthermore, Vitoria-Gasteiz boasts a substantial fleet of work vehicles, including 9,256 trucks, 2,237 tractors, 239 buses, and 1,006 trailers.
The growth of electric and hybrid vehicles is notable. 'Zero Emissions' vehicles (electric and some plug-in hybrids) have increased from 1,602 to 2,930 in one year. 'ECO' labeled vehicles (hybrids and gas-powered) have risen from 6,030 to 7,668.
Additionally, 14,787 vehicles benefit from some discount on their circulation tax, over 3,000 more than the previous year. This group primarily includes electric, hybrid, gas-powered cars, and historic vehicles. However, the majority of the city's vehicles, 132,646, continue to pay the full tax.
Interestingly, the number of classic vehicles has also seen an increase, rising from 2,583 to 2,871 since 2025. These vehicles are over 25 or 30 years old.
Vitoria-Gasteiz continues to add vehicles, but the growth rate has moderated. Drivers are keeping their cars for longer periods, and fewer old vehicles are being deregistered. Consequently, despite fewer new cars entering the market, the total number of vehicles continues to rise. The lifespan of vehicles is being extended.
