TUVISA, the municipal company of Vitoria-Gasteiz, is advancing its strategy for fleet modernization and electrification. To this end, its president, Izaskun Reyes, and manager, Josetxo Rico, have visited the International Bus and Coach Fair (FIAA) in Madrid. This event serves as a key meeting point for leading manufacturers, operators, and technology companies in the transport sector.
The fair aims to showcase the latest market solutions, particularly in areas such as bus electrification, charging systems, energy efficiency, connectivity, safety, and fleet management. This year's edition prominently features zero-emission vehicles and electromobility-related technologies.
TUVISA's participation seeks to gather information on future technologies and identify solutions best suited to Vitoria-Gasteiz's needs. Reyes emphasized that "technological transformation is advancing rapidly, and electrification is no longer a future possibility but a reality."
In recent years, TUVISA has made significant strides in fleet renewal, notably with the Intelligent Electric Bus (BEI) project, which comprises 13 fully electric buses that have collectively covered nearly three million kilometers. Furthermore, new electric buses were incorporated in 2024 and 2025 to electrify new routes and maintain fleet age balance.
Reyes concluded that "fleet renewal is not just about purchasing buses; it's about planning the public transport we want for the coming decades." Thorough analysis of technology, range, charging systems, capacity, maintenance, and lifetime costs is crucial, and fairs like FIAA offer an exceptional opportunity for this.
