The Vitoria-Gasteiz Municipal Music Band will launch its season on Wednesday, September 23rd, with the concert 'Explosión inicial'. The event will take place at 7:30 PM in the Maria de Maeztu auditorium of the Europa Conference Centre. The concert will narrate the birth of the universe, the formation of the Earth, and the contemplation of the cosmos through five musical pieces.
According to Sonia Díaz de Corcuera, Councilor for Culture and Education, the new season will traverse "the great stages of existence" over 10 concerts. This first chapter "places us at the origin: the birth of the universe, the formation of the Earth, and the contemplation of the cosmos".
Luis Orduña, the concert's director, highlighted that the program summarizes "some of the season's main artistic lines: the dialogue between great repertoire and contemporary creation, the presence of two female composers in the same program, the premiere of a new work, and the participation of Bert Appermont as composer-in-residence".
The origin will be narrated through five pieces. The first is 'The Big Bang' by Bert Appermont, which the band will perform for the first time and which recreates the "great explosion and emergence of life". This will be followed by the absolute premiere of 'Gea' by Anne Pérez de Azpeitia, inspired by the primordial Earth goddess.
The program continues with 'Bright Moon' by Yukiko Nishimura, focusing on the firmament, and 'Marte' by Gustav Holst, representing a world "dominated by brutality and war". The concert will conclude with 'The Hearth (Alter Holst)' by Jun Nagao, which constructs an image of the Earth "full of vitality".
