The Urola Garaia Association has launched a campaign to mitigate the effects of climate change by installing nearly 800 sunshades in public spaces across the region to provide shade and protection.

The initiative aims to raise awareness about heatwaves and promote the network of climate shelters established under the Agenda 2030 program. The installations feature specific colors to identify these protected areas.
The sunshades are being installed gradually across the four municipalities of the region. Following their placement in Zumarraga, work has begun in Urretxu, where the first units have been set up in the park next to the cultural center.
The association stated that exact locations will not be announced in advance to maintain a surprise effect. Through this project, they aim to provide cooler and more suitable spaces for the public.
