The Bizkaia-based group Sakatu! has been crowned the winner of the 5th Elektrotxarangas Contest in Azpeitia, securing a 5,000 euro prize and a performance opportunity at the San Ignacio festivities.

The Bizkaia-based group Sakatu! has emerged victorious in the 5th Elektrotxarangas Contest of Euskal Herria, an event organized by the Azpeitia City Council and the AZTE Old Town Hospitality Association. Following a May filled with music and festive spirit in the town's streets, the jury awarded the first prize to the formation from the Txorierri region after their outstanding performance on May 23rd.
Organizers highlighted the "extraordinary level" demonstrated by all participating groups throughout the competition.
The jury evaluated aspects such as musicality, sound quality, audience interaction, performance quality while moving, repertoire diversity, the use of the Basque language (euskera), equality, and other criteria to determine the final rankings.
As the winner, Sakatu! will receive a prize of 5,000 euros, in addition to the opportunity to perform during the upcoming San Ignacio festivities in Azpeitia.
A key novelty this year was the introduction of prizes for the top three finishers. Elektrotxufla secured the second position and a 2,000 euro prize, while 3indarrok will take home 1,000 euros for achieving third place. Both groups are familiar with success in Azpeitia, as Elektrotxufla won in 2024 and 3indarrok triumphed in the 2025 edition.
The contest once again transformed the Saturdays in May into an unmissable event for elektrotxarangas enthusiasts. Over four days, six groups paraded through the streets of Azpeitia's old town, accompanied by hundreds of people, creating the festive atmosphere characteristic of the event.
The program kicked off on May 9th with a solo performance by 3indarrok. Due to a clash with the Domusa Teknik mountain race, the Navarrese group was the sole focus of the first day, starting their route from Plaza Pérez Arregi and bringing music throughout the historic center.
On May 16th, it was the turn of Joseto ta Alayak and Elektrotxufla, who performed their respective routes in opposite directions between the main square and Plaza Pérez Arregi, livening up another festive afternoon in the town center.
A week later, on May 23rd, Sakatu! and Patxangoi performed. The final date, May 30th, was initially scheduled for OstiKda and Skapaie. However, only Skapaie was able to perform, as the other group could not travel to Azpeitia.
With the performance schedule concluded, the jury evaluated each route and decided to award the victory to Sakatu!.
This marks a golden conclusion to another edition of a contest that has firmly established itself as one of the most anticipated spring events in Azpeitia.
