The men's rowing team from Orio has reaffirmed its dominance in the waters of Mutriku with a clear victory, one week before the Gipuzkoa Championship. Iker Zabala's crew appears ready to extend last season's supremacy, winning this final pre-season test with a time of 20 minutes, six seconds, and 54 hundredths.
The Orio team finished eleven seconds and five hundredths ahead of the second-place finisher, Donostiarra (20:17.59), while Getaria completed the race podium (20:19:06). Hondarribia secured fourth place, ahead of Isuntza, which narrowly beat San Juan by just 28 hundredths.
Zierbena finished in a notable eighth position. Zumaia, in tenth place, was the top boat among those competing in the ARC-1 league, ahead of Zarautz, Arkote, San Pedro, Lapurdi, and Hibaika.
The Gipuzkoa Championship will award the season's first rowing title next weekend.
Both Orio and Zierbena were not at full strength in Mutriku, as both clubs also competed in the qualifying race for the Spanish Trainerilla Championship in Castro Urdiales. There, Aguiluchos and galipos qualified along with Chapela and the local club for the final. In the women's absolute category, Orio, San Juan, Astillero, and Tirán will contend for victory.
