The streets of Azpeitia were taken over by giants this morning to celebrate Children's Day. On the eve of the San Ignacio festivities, 22 comparsas gathered in the town, and a dance competition was held in the square. The event created a festive atmosphere in the town.
In the individual dances, the comparsa Ezpelur from Barañain was the winner, receiving a prize of 300 euros. In the group category, Pamplona's Old Town emerged victorious, with a reward of 600 euros. The jury was composed of Juan Carlos del Pozo (Azpeitia Photography Association), Amaia Aranaga (Itsasi dance group), and Mari Jose Bikendi (director of the Juan Antxieta music school).
After the awards ceremony, the giants continued in a parade through the Old Town, filling the town with anticipation for the San Ignacio festivities. The weekend has been full of events in Azpeitia, with cider and cheese competitions and a recortador championship on Saturday.
Children's Day also featured numerous activities, including a meal for the town's children and young people, games, and cycling and sheepdog competitions. The Festival Committees will be the protagonists on Thursday, with the chupinazo that will kick off the San Ignacio festivities.
