Gipuzkoa Inter-Town Pelota Championship Kicks Off with Azpeitia Ready to Compete

The tournament, combining leather paleta and short pala, will start next weekend, with Azpeitia entering in the round of sixteen.

The Gipuzkoa Inter-Town Pelota Championship is set to begin next weekend, featuring both leather paleta and short pala disciplines. Azpeitia will join the competition in the round of sixteen, facing Olaberria.

Ten towns will participate in the leather paleta and short pala modalities. The four towns competing in the round of sixteen are Azpeitia, Olaberria, Zumaia, and Oiartzun. The remaining six towns, Ordizia, Andoain, Donostia, Lazkao, Deba, and Errenteria, will join the tournament in the quarter-finals.
The Azpeitia team will consist of paleta players Oier Alkorta, Eneko Martija, Telmo Garaizar, Mikel Santxez, Urritz Goenaga, and Mikel Gurrutxaga. The organizational duties will be handled by Asier Egiguren Bikutzi. The first leg of their match will be played away from home on Saturday at 10:00 AM.
Regarding the hand pelota modality, 24 towns have registered. Although that championship has already started, Azpeitia will join the competition in the third weekend of May, in the round of sixteen. Their opponent will be the winner of the playoff between Amezketa and Lazkao. The first leg will be played away from home.
In the first leg of the round of thirty-two, Amezketa defeated Lazkao 2-1, with scores of 12-22, 22-6, and 22-16. Azpeitia's opponent in the hand pelota round of sixteen will be decided next weekend.
