Azpeitia is preparing for San Juan night with its traditional bonfire and various cultural performances. This event is one of the deeply rooted traditions in the Basque Country, serving to welcome summer and celebrate the longest day of the year. The fire symbolically represents renewal and the start of summer.
In recent years, the gathering of residents around the bonfire in the square has become a highlight of San Juan night. Therefore, the City Council is continuing this initiative this year.
The bonfire will be lit at 10:00 PM and will be accompanied by cultural performances. Members from the Juan Antxieta music school, Luis Beltza dance school, and the Ikasberri dance group will participate around the fire, adding music and dance to the traditional evening.
Additionally, Urrestilla will also experience its magical night with the lighting of a bonfire during its San Juan festivities. The opening event will be on the 23rd, and the festive program will extend throughout the week.
